Updates on Core Chain

Contributors to Core Chain have successfully completed the first Bitcoin->CORE HTLC atomic swap as part of testing efforts. Development on P2P HTLC swaps continues, with EVM->EVM swapping functionality complete, and BTC->EVM swapping functionality coming soon.

What’s new on Core Chain

  • One of the largest mining pools in the world, SpiderPool joins Core Chain, allocating its hash power to Satoshi Plus consensus. In sum, Core Chain is about halfway on the road to 100% hash power, meaning ~50% of all Bitcoin miners’ efforts are currently contributing to its security model.

  • Core Ignition, an incentive program that rewards users and builders for their contributions to the network’s growth was launched last week. The program is meant to run for six months to foster the growth and adoption of the Core ecosystem.

  • Adoption is growing fast! Core Chain is now in the top 30 blockchains with the most unique active on-chain users signaling that the network is being embraced by real-world users as the most Bitcoin-aligned EVM-compatible chain.

  • Catch up on the Unlocking Bitcoin Defi panel with initial Core contributors Rich Rines & Brendon Sedo as they dive into the world of inscriptions, unlocking the trillion-dollar Bitcoin economy and the strategies involved.

  • Dencun, an Ethereum Update has been met with a mix of comments from the Ethereum community. Initial Core contributor Rich Rines’ comment on Dencun was highlighted in this Coindesk article.

  • The Indian Core community is having a community call on March 20th on Twitter to discuss the vision, plans, and upcoming initiatives for Core Chain development in the Indian ecosystem. Don’t miss it!

Bitcoin Developer Insight

  • COPA vs Wright: In a high-stakes legal battle, the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) and bitcoin developers are seeking to disprove Craig S. Wright's claim that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. Wright, who first claimed to be Satoshi Nakomoto in 2016, aims to establish his copyright over Bitcoin, potentially affecting a number of his other ongoing lawsuits against major exchanges. COPA, supported by industry figures like Jack Dorsey, argues that Wright doesn’t have the expertise to have created Bitcoin and can’t produce legitimate evidence to support his arguments. The outcome of this trial could significantly impact Wright's ability to continue litigation based on his claim to be Nakamoto, with Justice James Mellor overseeing the proceedings and the potential for further legal ramifications depending on the verdict.

  • Standardizing Bitcoin ordinals: The surge in popularity of Bitcoin Ordinals and new meme coins has prompted the formation of the Layer 1 Foundation, which aims to standardize the BRC-20 fungible token standard while fostering trust, transparency, and cooperative development within the BRC-20 ecosystem. Key members, including the protocol's pseudonymous creator Domo and several blockchain and software firms, which have pledged to adhere to principles that prioritize simplicity, safety, and community-focused development. The foundation's establishment is a proactive measure to prevent potential hard forks and maintain protocol integrity. The hope is that a commitment to open-source changes and decentralized governance will protect user interests and prevent any single entity from dominating the decision-making process.

  • Ankr’s RPC services open up new paths to developing on Bitcoin: Famed blockchain infrastructure provider Ankr has recently expanded its offerings by integrating the Bitcoin blockchain into its RPC service, a move that will allow developers to use a range of tools to build applications on top of the biggest cryptocurrency.
