Key mining company makes a bid on AI: For five years, bitcoin mining company Core Scientific has been quietly diversifying into artificial intelligence, recognizing the immense power needs for training AI models and handling their workloads. This move is now public, with Core Scientific announcing a 12-year, $3.5 billion+ deal with cloud provider CoreWeave to provide infrastructure for machine learning uses. Core Scientific will supply around 200 megawatts to CoreWeave, which rents out the graphics processing units (GPUs) crucial for AI workloads and was recently valued at $19 billion. While still mining bitcoin, Core Scientific and other miners have been retrofitting facilities to meet surging AI demand after ChatGPT sparked an AI investment wave, while bitcoin mining rewards were cut in half. The pivot allows miners to leverage existing data center capacity for the more profitable AI business.
Crypto whale revealed by big Bitcoin movement: On June 3, 2024, 200 bitcoins (BTC) valued at $13.87 million were moved for the first time in 11 years. Originally acquired for about $7,000 when BTC prices ranged between $25 and $35, these coins have significantly increased in value. The coins were transferred to two distinct Pay-to-Script-Hash (P2SH) wallets, with each wallet receiving just over 25 BTC, worth $1.7 million at current exchange rates. Further analysis of these and other transactions from the same entity suggests that they control at least 1,000 BTC, valued at around $69.2 million, affirming their status as a 'whale' in the cryptocurrency world. This series of transactions not only highlights the enormous gains in BTC value over the years but also the ongoing activity and potential strategy of significant holders within the market.
Satoshi Nakamoto might soon pass Elon Musk as world’s richest: As of June 1, 2024, Elon Musk, known for his significant contributions to technology through companies like Tesla and SpaceX, leads as the wealthiest individual globally with a $210 billion net worth. However, a potential shift could occur with Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, who currently holds the 23rd spot in global wealth. With over 1 million BTC mined during the cryptocurrency's early days, Nakamoto's fortune is already substantial. To surpass Musk, Bitcoin's value would need roughly double (at the June 1st, 2024 prices). This scenario raises intriguing questions about the recognition of Nakamoto by mainstream financial indices and the impact on wealth distribution within the evolving landscape of global finance. Such a development would mark a historic milestone, especially within the cryptocurrency and blockchain communities, and could redefine how wealth is viewed and valued in the digital age.
