Core Athena Hardfork: Better Scalability, Performance and Functionality

Core blockchain is gearing up for an upgrade. The Athena Hardfork has improvements for better scalability, performance, and staking experience. After the successful activation on the Core Testnet on 17th Jan 2025, the Athena Hardfork is scheduled for activation on the Core Mainnet on 3rd Feb 2025 around 01:00 AM (UTC).

Scheduled Hardfork Timeline

  • Core Mainnet: 3rd Feb 2025 around 01:00 AM (UTC)

  • Core Testnet (Completed): 17th Jan 2025 around 02:00 AM (UTC)

Key Highlights of Athena Upgrade

The Athena Hardfork comes with several changes aimed at improving performance, usability, and functionality:

  • Improved Dual Staking Experience: Enhanced features for a smoother and more efficient staking process.

  • Docker Support: Simplified deployment and management of nodes with added Docker compatibility.

  • Bug Fixes and General Improvements: Various fixes and optimizations for better performance and reliability.

Action Required: Upgrade Now!

Validators and Full Node Operators

This is a mandatory upgrade for all validators and full-node operators. Therefore, all validators and full node operators on Core mainnet should switch their software version to v1.0.14 before 3rd Feb 2025.

  • How to Upgrade:

  1. Download the latest release from the GitHub repository.
  1. Follow the upgrade instructions provided in the official documentation.
  1. Verify that your node is fully synced and operational.

Devs and Users

The Athena Hardfork introduces no interface changes that could cause compatibility issues. Developers and users can continue their operations smoothly without requiring additional actions.

Why Upgrade?

Running the latest software ensures uninterrupted operation, access to new features, and alignment with the network’s latest protocols. Delaying the upgrade may lead to syncing issues and disconnection from the Core blockchain network.
